Dear friends. Last week a friend told me he was praying for me. I responded in my classic stubbornness and said “good, because I’m on a runaway train and I’m not coming to church with you either.” He laughed at my blazing honesty and said “That’s fine because Jesus is still running right after you.”

Veterans are very intriguing people. Bless them so, so much. They have this training to make them un-emotional creatures, to keep them cerebral, and in a mode to win at survival. But I’ll tell you something that is beyond beautiful about them. They have this uncanny yet, subtle radar for humans. But they don’t ask and they don’t judge. It’s a presence, if you will.

I had one whom I’ve only chatted to 3 times. I suspected he had done something for me. When I asked him, he played it off like he was confused.

So, I did a little digging and when I caught him, I reached back and thanked him. You know what he said? “Ok. Ok. I want you to know someone’s got your back in here but I didn’t want you to know it was me.” That’s a sniper for you. You know what I call that? God winking at me.

But it doesn’t end there.

Earlier this week I had an acquaintance who texted me a random question. We got to chatting and we ended the conversation nicely. The next day he sent me this message about something he was struggling with. He asked for privacy which is of course, always respected. We had some dialogue and then he sent me this random tattoo he was going to get. (This was not related to his original text). So I asked him what the 6 meant. And he said it’s “I got your back” that the police use. I asked how they got that and he said “if you’re facing 12, 6 is on your back side”. It sent chills down my spine.

I know I connect things in the most bizarre ways but that’s just the ways of my being. It’s all one big story in my brain.

The original person who told me he was praying for me…..you know what he said? He said he prayed for God to keep my voice safe and protected.

No matter where you are, I hope you are able to see in all of the fog and haze, someone’s got your back. That’s God winking at you.
